OSINT — open-source intelligence
OSINT involves the systematic search and analysis of lawfully accessible online and offline sources. Claims found during research should be checked against several independent sources.
HUMINT — information from human sources
HUMINT rests on focused, ethical communication and careful evaluation of what people say. Responsible handling of personal data and avoiding deceptive or prohibited methods are particularly important.
Source evaluation and reporting
Facts, probable conclusions and unverified claims must be clearly separated. A good report also explains the origin, timing, limitations and verifiability of the information.
